Our Program
Service Learning is a teaching and learning method in which students provide services in the community to help the community better understand what they are learning. Service Learning is embedded in the academic courses and focuses on critical thinking and problem solving, personal development and community responsibility.This program is well known as a community service in some country.
The beneficial factors of service learning:
As a member of community, we will gain an increased sense of civic responsibility and a commitment of community involvement.
As students, we gain deeper understandings of our courses, build career skills that will enhance our resumé, develop our writing skills, critical thinking, problem solving skills, and learn how to communicateto other people with different backgrounds.
As individuals, we will improve our skills, self-esteem, self-confidence, self-reflections, and reduce involvement of our risky behavior.
Why does Trisakti make this program active?
Well, Trisakti makes this program active because there are some students with great English skills who are exempted from Basic English class. These students are those who got TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication) score above 650. Trisakti decides that this exempted students must do something to improve more on their English skills, so Trisakti came up with service learning program, which can improve not only the students’ English skills but also their characteristics as tourism students. Trisakti Institute of Tourism has provided the students with this program which give them the opportunities to do a lot of interesting and fun activities.The students can choose one of the following activities:

Fun English in community.

News Letter.

Make an English event.

Fun Educational Trip.
Before doing the activities, each group must write a proposal which is approved by Trisakti to the community. Then, they can proceed to their own activities. Each time they have done their activities they must make a report which includes a self-reflection of what they have done and an evaluation of the activities that must be given to their mentors.

What is Service Learning in general?
Service Learning is a teaching and learning method in which students provide meaningful services in the community to help the community better understand what they are learning.
How long has this program been running?
In Trisakti Institute of Tourism, this program is only done for English class since it is also a new program held last year (Two semeters ago). Hopefully this program will continue to run next year too.
Is there any requirements to join this program?
For now the students who got 650 and above on TOEIC score must join this program, but hopefully Trisakti Tourism will make this program not only for students with high scores but also for any students who are interested to join this program because this is a good opportunity as they can get skills such as, character building, improving English skills, and gaining the awareness of their community around them as they are tourism students which would need good communication skills on the future.
